Netball
Two Pacific Island teams will compete at the next Netball World Cup in Sydney, following the qualifiers scheduled for 2026.
World Netball said Oceania will be one of the five regional qualifiers scheduled for next year, with the two top teams advancing to the Netball World Cup.
The 10 qualifiers will join the top six nations that have already been confirmed for the world meet, which is scheduled to take place from 25 August to 5 September, 2027.
The six confirmed teams are hosts Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica, England, South Africa and Uganda.
Rugby
Fijian Drua fans in Tauranga will get the chance to see their favourite players before the 2026 Super Rugby Pacific season kicks off, with a pre-season game lined up against the Chiefs on 30 January.
The pre-season trial at Mount Maunganui will be held at Blake Park.
Drua head coach and former Chiefs player Glen Jackson said it will be the team's first pre-season game in New Zealand and they are grateful to face a quality opponent like the Chiefs.
He said the pre-season game will be "an invaluable chance" for their players to push their boundaries before the main competition starts in February.
Football
Vanuatu United FC have announced the signing of experienced national representative Jason Thomas, ahead of their OFC Pro League debut in January.
Thomas has also played club football in Solomon Islands, Fiji and Papua New Guinea.
He has competed in multiple editions of the OFC Champions League and has earned more than a dozen senior caps for the Vanuatu national team.
Vanuatu United general manager Christian Happel said Thomas is one of the region's outstanding defenders, and a proven leader on and off the pitch.
Meanwhile, Solomon Kings FC will have the support of the Brisbane-based Wynnum Wolves during the OFC Pro League.
Solomon Islands' Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele visited the Wynnum facilities in late November and was briefed on what the club would be assisting the Kings with.
Manele said the partnership will provide new opportunities for Solomon Islands players, strengthen pathways for young talent, and deepen people-to-people ties between Solomon Islands and Australia.
Tennis
The Northern Mariana Islands have been promoted to Asia/Oceania Group IV in the tennis Davis Cup.
The Northern Marianas confirmed their promotion from group 5 with a 2-0 win over the Maldives.
They had previously won ties over Yemen and Laos.
The Northern Marianas will compete in Asia/Oceania Group IV for the first time next year.
Turkmenistan secured the other promotion spot from Group V.
Rugby
The American Eagles men's rugby coach says they will be ready for their pool E opponents at the 2027 Rugby World Cup.
Scott Lawrence said France, Japan and Samoa will be tough pool opponents and believes Samoa will be an unknown quantity, especially with player changes throughout the 2025 season.
He said as it will be the World Cup, all games are going to be tough and they "will have to be ready for whatever".
Football
Fiji will host the 2026 Melanesian Cup football tournament.
Fiji Football chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf said the tournament will be turned into a Melanesian Cultural Festival, with some other sports added to the program.
Papua New Guinea hosted this year's event for both men and women's teams.
Vanuatu won the 2025 title in the men's competition while PNG claimed the women's title.
