Parker waiting for Govt signal on heritage buildings

08:15 am on 14 September 2010

Christchurch Mayor Bob Parker is waiting to hear whether the Government will commit money to help repair damaged heritage buildings.

Scores of heritage and character buildings in Canterbury, including a great number in Christchurch, were damaged in the magnitude 7.1 earthquake on 4 September.

Mr Parker told a public meeting on Monday night that he has spoken to Prime Minister John Key about the Government providing money to a heritage fund, but is yet to receive an answer.

He says more money means more buildings saved.

But Mr Parker says they have nowhere near enough money.
