'Violent' Black Power member arrested in Hawke's Bay after assault in Auckland

A "violent" gang member has been arrested in Hawke's Bay after fleeing an alleged assault in Auckland.

Police said the man was arrested on Sunday following the incident which saw a woman assaulted and a gun presented.

The man took the five-hour journey from the Counties Manukau area down to Hawke's Bay where a vehicle was stopped in Eskdale.

The "violent" patched Black Power member was found hiding in the back of the car and arrested, police said.

Police said a gun was found in the car and seized.

The 23-year-old was remanded in custody, facing charges of assault, convening a protection order and unlawfully possessing a firearm.

He was due to reappear in Hastings District Court on Tuesday.
