A person is dead after reports of a gas explosion on Great Barrier Island.
A police spokesperson said emergency services were called to a property on Motairehe Road just before 1am on Friday where a fire had broken out.
A person was found dead at the property, and the fire was being treated as unexplained, the spokesperson said.
