Fiji officials in Namosi project talks

Senior Fiji government officials have gone to meet locals amid concerns about the way forward for the Namosi mining project.

The interim prime minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, has already said he will personally take over negotiations over the proposed multi-billion copper and gold mine.

He says this is because some people seek to politicise the project for their own benefits by spreading misinformation.

According to the Fijivillage website, the secretary of the newly formed Namosi Tikina Landowners Committee, Sipiriano Nariva, they want to have discussions in relation to their concerns about loss of their waterways and forest.

The interim prime minister is out of the country.
