Sangakarra completes triple century

Kumar Sangakkara made a career-best 319 as Sri Lanka further tightened their grip on the second cricket Test against Bangladesh in Chittagong.

The tourists, who won the first Test by an innings and 248 runs in Dhaka last week, ran up 587 in their first innings and Bangladesh replied with 1-86 by stumps on the second day.

Left-hander Sangakkara's maiden triple century was his ninth 200-plus knock, leaving him in second place behind Australian legend Don Bradman who had 12 scores of 200 or more.

His triple century included 32 boundaries and eight sixes and he was the last man out.

Bangladesh will need to bat out a major part of the remaining three days to prevent a 2-0 series rout.

Sangakkara's 34th test century draws him level with the retired Sunil Gavaskar and Brian Lara in fifth equal place on the all-time list of century-makers.

The four above them are Sachin Tendulkar, Jacques Kallis, Ricky Ponting and Rahul Dravid.
