The Australian Diamonds beat New Zealand's Silver Ferns 48-43 in their trans-tasman netball Test in Adelaide on Sunday
The Silver Ferns jumped out to an early lead but the Diamonds drew level late in the first quarter, which ended 12-12, and upped their game to go ahead in the second.
Australia led New Zealand 23-21 at half-time but the Ferns fought back in the third quarter to go into the last session 36-35 ahead.
In the final quarter, however, the Australians proved too strong and ran out comfortable winners 48-43 in the first of the three-Test series.
Silver Ferns captain Casey Williams says they threw away too much ball in the final quarter. Australia slowed down the ball to the New Zealand shooters, she says, and her side that didn't lift enough in the final 15 minutes.
The second Test is in Wellington on Thursday.
