Network manager Scott Horniblow said Bay of Plenty was the hardest hit area, with more than 2200 down.

Horniblow said every available crew was working to re-connect the power, with issues ranging from broken poles, downed lines, trees in lines and broken hardware.

Helicopters and drones were being used to work out how to repair lines in sites blocked by slips, and he did not know what time power would be back, he said.

Customers are also still without electricity in Taranaki, Coromandel, Thames, Waihi, South Waikato, Whanganui, Wairarapa and Manawatū.

Leigh resident Michael Cray said he was frustrated with Vector after three days of no communication regarding his power outage following Cyclone Dovi.

Cray said he would like Vector to be upfront instead of promising to fix it "as soon as possible".

In response a Vector spokesperson said customers should receive communication on restoration times today.

Vector said crews are working to restore power today to the 700 remaining homes in the north and west of Auckland region.

This afternoon, Northpower which covers the Whangārei and Kaipara districts said there are still about 100 customers with outages, down from 6000 on Sunday.

More than 150 workers have been repairing connections but some properties will still have cuts overnight.
