HealthAlliance, which provides technology for the Northland, Waitematā, Auckland and Counties Manukau health boards, said it was investigating the activity that was detected during a routine security check.

It said there was no link to other recent serious cybersecurity incidents, and the IT systems were functioning normally, so there was no impact on health services.

The privacy commissioner was notified of a potential data breach by Counties Manukau District Health Board on behalf of HealthAlliance.

It said it would be premature to assume there had been any damage.
