Forty nine countries are taking part in this year's World Rowing Championships in New Zealand from 30 October - 7 November. The event is held every year with the exception of a summer Olympic year.

The International Rowing Federation, FISA has confirmed that 800 plus athletes will be competing. It was expected that 50 countries would compete but Cameroon did not confirm its entry.

The largest team comes from the United States with 24 crews entered.

The USA will be represented in all 14 Olympic boat classes, all eight international events and two of the five adaptive events.

Germany has entered 22 boat classes and Great Britain is in 20.

The next largest teams are Italy and host, New Zealand with 18 entries, China with 17, Australia 15 and Canada and France both with 12.

Samoa and the United Arab Emirates will compete for the first time at a World Rowing Championships.

For the first time ever, the medal finals will be raced over four days.

The world championships are the biggest sporting event to be held in New Zealand since the 1990 Commonwealth Games in Auckland.
