Covid-19 updates for Monday 6 September - as it happened

19:09 pm on 6 September 2021

The Covid Response Minister is urging Aucklanders to hold their nerve and stick to the level 4 rules as the rest of the country moves to level 2 at midnight onTuesday. See how the rest of the day's Covid-19 news developed with RNZ's live blog.

The rest of the country is to go to a beefed-up version of level 2 from tomorrow, with Auckland staying at level 4 for another week at least.

Chris Hipkins says he can't make any promises about when the city will go down a level but keeping to the restrictions means it will be as soon possible.

"My best advice to Aucklanders in particular is if you do want to go down alert levels sooner rather than later, hold your nerve, keep following the level 4 rules. Because we're winning this at this point.

"The last thing we want to do is for people to get disgruntled and frustrated and start taking risks, don't take risks, now's not the time to take risks. Things are heading in the right direction, hold your nerve. And we can get through it."
