Police dog Gage farewelled at service

Police in Christchurch held a service on Friday afternoon to farewell Gage, the police dog shot dead on Tuesday.

The dog's handler, Senior Constable Bruce Lamb, was shot through the jaw, and another constable, Mitchel Alatalo, was shot in the leg during a confrontation at a house in Linwood. Both are expected to make a full recovery.

A 34-year-old man has been charged with the attempted murder of the officers and with killing a police dog, along with other charges.

Gage is the 23rd police dog to be killed while on duty.
