A 21-gun salute was fired in Wellington at midday to mark the birth of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's second child on Saturday night.
Blank rounds were fired by the 16 Field Regiment Royal New Zealand Artillery at Point Jerningham today to acknowledge the birth of the yet-to-be named princess.
The Saluting Battery is the only permanent battery authorised to perform artillery salutes.
It is used for five pre-planned salutes each year, marking occasions related to the Royal Family.
