In a statement, the Health Ministry said the total number of active cases in New Zealand today is 33 and the total number of confirmed cases is 2245.

The Ministry said it was monitoring the situation in Western Australia, but the current risk to New Zealand was low.

Perth [https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/world/441154/perth-begins-three-day-lockdown-after-covid-19-cases-emerge has gone into lockdown after a man from Victoria tested positive for Covid-19 after leaving a quarantine hotel at the end of 14 days isolation.

"New Zealand health officials remain in contact with their Australian counterparts and are closely monitoring the situation in Perth," said the Ministry.

"Both countries have planned for this type of scenario and are following agreed Trans-Tasman bubble protocols."

It said about 1000 passengers who have arrived in New Zealand on direct flights from Perth recently were being contacted and provided with advice.

The Ministry said there were 4511 tests on Friday and testing around Auckland will continue this long weekend, with four community testing centres at Northcote, Henderson, Balmoral and Wiri open today.

The Balmoral community testing centre will also be open on Sunday and Monday.
