PNG Covid cases up to 609

Five more cases of Covid-19 case have been reported in Papua New Guinea over the weekend, taking their total case number to 609.

Four cases were in the National Capital District and one in Morobe Province.

On Friday, a 57-year-old man in Moresby Northeast was admitted into hospital, suffering from fever, a cough and shortness of breath.

On Saturday, three more cases, all women, were reported in Moresby South.

One of the women was 87 years old.

The one case from Morobe is a 35-year-old man from Lae who is asymptomatic.

15 coronavirus cases are deemed active while there have been seven confirmed cases from Covid-19 in PNG.

When announcing the new cases, the Pandemic Response Controller, David Manning, once again reminded the public to take heed of the measures against Covid-19.

"We need to do everything possible to stop the spread of this virus. At this stage, taking preventive measures is the way to go so I appeal to everyone in the community to do their part.

"Always adhere to the New Normal or Niupela Pasin measures - and this includes frequent handwashing, physical distancing of 1.5 metres from the next person and avoiding crowds," Manning said.
