The American Samoa Government has been given a cash infusion by the United States Department of the Army.
The money, given today to Governor Tauese Sunia by Army Brigadier General Robert Lee, is the upfront lease payment for land the Government is providing for a new 20 million U.S. dollar Army Reserve complex.
Under the terms of the lease the US Army agreed to pay up front to lease the three hectare site for 55 years.
The Government owned land is part of Pago Pago International Airport.
The Army is now trying to secure the necessary environmental and construction permits before the project goes out for public bidding.
