A second shooting on Sunday evening targeted the Wairoa Police Station.

No-one was injured in either incident.

Acting Eastern District Commander Iain Chapman said the attacks were being investigated and would not be tolerated.

He said an Armed Response Team made up of Armed Offenders Squad members would be assembled in the town while the shootings were being probed.

Mr Chapman said threats against staff were taken seriously, and support was being offered to staff and their families.
