Local contractors preferred for repairs on new Cook Islands water system

16:04 pm on 11 December 2018

The Deputy Prime Minister of the Cook Islands, Mark Brown, says he wants local contractors to undertake repairs to Rarotonga's huge new water system, Te Mato Vai.

The China Civil Engineering and Construction Company built Stage One of the project but it is unsatisfactory and in places will need to be dug up and rebuilt.

Mr Brown says the government is working through a dispute process and Don Wiseman asked him if he was disappointed with the performance of the huge Chinese company.
