A strike notice has been issued by unionised staff at France's public broadcaster in French Polynesia in a bid to counter cuts.

The stoppage is to come into effect on Tuesday and if it goes ahead coincides with the start of Tahiti's International Documentary Film Festival, or FIFO.

Unions in Tahiti are opposed to a reduction of the network's local ouput and have decried that senior company staff are being flown from Paris to upmarket hotels in Tahiti to attend the film festival.

In France, the network is expected to be restructured with the loss of many jobs.

The planned action in Tahiti also follows a call for a general strike in France next week to push for higher pensions and pay.
