The discount initiative has been launched by the Associate Minister of Transport to improve health and reduce emissions.

Julie Anne Genter said the government has negotiated bulk-purchase discounts on e-bikes for public sector organisations including DHBs and councils.

She said when staff bike to work it takes pressures off parking in places like Wellington Hospital and reduces congestion.

The discounts on e-bikes will range between $300 to $1200 off the cost of an e-bike.

"This initiative is expected to be offered up to around 50,000 public sector workers over the next year," Genter said in a statement.
