American Samoa election petition challenged

16:24 pm on 24 November 2006

The Election Office in American Samoa has filed a motion to dismiss a complaint by one of the candidates in the recent House election for Tuala'uta District.

The complainant Representative Falemao Pili is contesting the results on the grounds that one of the eight candidates that ran, Galu Satele Jr. was not a resident of the district.

Chief Election Officer Soliai Tuipine states in the motion for dismissal that the representative failed to meet the deadline to challenge Satele's eligibility as prescribed by law.

The High Court has set a hearing on the case in two weeks.
