Confusing delays over inquiry into Samoa prison

14:47 pm on 25 April 2014

It could be another two months before the findings of a Commission of Inquiry into allegations of corruption at Tafaigata prison in Samoa are made public.

According to the Samoa Observer, a media statement issued last week on behalf of Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sa'ilele Malielegaoi, promised the report would be made public in four weeks' time.

But the Minister of Police and Prisons, Sala Fata Pinati, says a further four weeks has been added to allow enough time for the investigation to be completed.

He also added the report will have to be reviewed again until further actions are taken.

That's despite the Prime Minister recently saying his cabinet had fully approved the recommendations from the Commission of Inquiry.

Among the recommendations, he told media there is an urgent need to improve the security at Tafa'igata prison.
