A popular Queenstown lake is now safe for swimming, less than five days after high levels of E coli were discovered.
Last week, water quality samples from Lake Hayes at Mill Creek Shallows showed levels at more than 2400 E coli per 100ml.
The government's guidelines for recreational swimming say water with more than 550 E coli per 100ml is a potential health risk.
However, the Queenstown Lakes District Council said further testing showed the water was safe for swimming and warning signs would be removed.
Routine water quality testing will continue.
