CNMI hospital owes $26M in utilities bills

10:07 am on 31 December 2018

The Northern Marianas' only hospital owes the country's utilities company $US26 million.

The hospital, the Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation in Garapan, is being accused of failing to address soaring debt.

It said it pays about $US4,000 a month to the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation.

But this is after the hospital reneged on a $US400,000 monthly payment plan, arguing it was underfunded and unable to pay.

The Utilities Corporation said it's also owed a substantial debt by the ports authority.
