Lions coach says tour will be harder

07:30 am on 27 May 2009

The British and Irish Lions head coach Ian McGeechan has arrived with his squad in South Africa promising his team will rise to the challenge.

The Lions kick off their intensive 10-match tour of the country against a High Veldt fifteen in Rustenberg on Sunday morning

McGeechan tasted success in South Africa as a player in 1974 and as coach in 1997 when the Lions beat the World Cup holders 2-1.

But the Scot says this tour will be harder, as they've just had the Super 14 and the Springboks have momentum from the Cup win in France.
