Three people - including two children - have been injured after a logging truck and a car collided at a one-way bridge in Northland today.

Emergency services are responding the serious crash on State Highway 15 - or Mangakahia Road - in Northland.

The collision, which occurred just after 3pm, has blocked the highway in both directions near Huka Road. There are no diversions at this stage.

It left the male driver of the car with multiple fractures.

Two children in the car were also injured.

A St John spokesperson said one patient in a serious condition had been airlifted to Whangārei Hospital, while two others, both in a moderate condition, were being transported by ambulance.

Police, fire-fighters, St John Ambulance and the Northland Rescue Helicopter are responding.

Police are advising motorists to avoid the Awarua area, about midway between Whangārei and Kaikohe.
