Ten days of national mourning is now being observed in Tonga following the death of the Queen Mother.

Halaevalu Mata'aho died last month in Auckland, and was laid to rest yesterday at the royal tomb Mala'ekula in Nuku'alofa.
The road was lined with school students who all bowed their heads in respect as the procession made its way to Mala'ekula, led by a 200-strong guard of honour and accompanied by members of the royal family.

All flags in the country are being flown at half-mast and will remain so for the 10 days of national mourning.
Queen Mata'aho is survived by her son King Tupou VI and daughter Princess Sālote Mafile'o Pilolevu Tuita, 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
