The pilot of a helicopter that crashed into power lines near State Highway 1 north of Taupō was found walking around conscious.
Emergency services were responding to the crash near Maroa Road at Atiamuri after police were notified about 1.50pm.
Fire spokesperson Craig Dally said the helicopter hit a high-tension power line, starting a small fire.
"The sole occupant was out of the helicopter and conscious when we arrived. Very lucky, yep."
The pilot was taken to hospital with moderate injuries.
Police initially reported the road was closed, but now say the road is open, although traffic management may be in place.
Transpower and Unison said power in the area had not been affected after the crash.
The Transport Accident Investigation Commission has decided not to investigate.
