A homicide investigation is underway and one person is in custody following a sudden death in Auckland this morning.
Armed police and emergency services earlier cordoned off a street in Te Atatū Peninsula and one person was taken to hospital in a critical condition.
Police said that person had since died of their injuries.
Another person located at the address was assisting police with their enquiries, they said.
Emergency services said they were called to an incident in Te Atatū Peninsula around 7.15am.
The end of Graham Avenue at Gloria Avenue has been cordoned off and a heavy police presence remains in the area.
At least eight police cars were present at the scene and two St John vehicles recently left the scene.
A Gloria Avenue business owner earlier told RNZ he had seen several police cars and and an ambulance heading past.
Police said a scene guard was in place and the public could expect to see an increased police presence in the area throughout the morning.
West Auckland councillor Shane Henderson said the community was worried and concerned.
He said despite the area being no stranger to crime, most areas out west were still safe places to live, making deaths like this one all the more concerning.
