Police are appealing for a man involved in a stabbing in Alexandra last night to hand himself in.
A 22-year-old was flown to Dunedin Hospital for surgery after the stabbing attack and is in stable condition.
Police said the stabbing occurred about 11.30pm after a confrontation between two people known to each other.
They were involved in an incident earlier in the evening.
They said they knew the identity of the alleged offender, and Detective Sergeant Derek Shaw said the man should hand himself in.
"The alleged offender is aware that police wish to speak to him," Shaw said.
"We encourage him to contact us immediately, and would discourage others from assisting him by transporting or hiding him from police."
The man is understood to have left the immediate area and may have travelled to Southland.
