Fewer Maori are smoking, the latest Census shows.
According to the 2013 Census, 122,553 Maori smoke compared to 144,483 at the last Census in 2006.
Cessation support service Quitline says it's particularly pleased to see a steady decline in the rates of smoking within Maori, which have always been notoriously high.
However, chief executive Paula Snowden says now is not the time for complacency for her organisation - because smoking figures for the entire population sit at 15.1% still.
