The search for a 16-year-old boy who tried to save his brothers from drowning in American Samoa is scheduled to be called off today.

The teen, from Tula Village, has been missing for more than four days after he swam out to help his brothers who were caught in a riptide .

The Director of Homeland Security, Samana Semo Ve'ave'a, tells KHJ News that a group of boys had been swimming right after the village's evening curfew that day.

He said some of the swimmers got caught in the currents and others went to their aid but missing 16-year-old never returned.

His two brothers were brought safely to shore.

Volunteer divers and staff from the Department of Public Safety and Department of Marine and Wildlife have been searching the waters while local villagers have been combing the beaches.
