'Dimorphism' compares two modes of growth that are very characteristic of New Zealand plants – tightly knit cushion plants (also known as ‘vegetable sheep’) which hug the ground; and divaricating shrubs, which are twiggy tangles that tuck tiny leaves away on the inside.
