'Dimorphism' - a poem by Janis Freegard
Our Changing World marks National Poetry Day (26 August) with a poem from Janis Freegard.
'Dimorphism' compares two modes of growth that are very characteristic of New Zealand plants – tightly knit cushion plants (also known as ‘vegetable sheep’) which hug the ground; and divaricating shrubs, which are twiggy tangles that tuck tiny leaves away on the inside.
Janis's book of poetry The Glass Rooster is published by Auckland University Press.
Listen to the poems Janis has previously read on Our Changing World, plus a conversation about her poetry book Animalia.
