19:07 pm on 2 September 2014

A former music and drama teacher has pleaded guilty to indecently assaulting nine children he had contact with while teaching at Havelock North Primary School.

Police say there could be more victims of Charles Harter, 63, who taught in schools in Hawke's Bay and Wellington.

The nine charges admitted by Harter in the Hastings District Court today relate to children he had contact with at the Havelock North school between 2012 and July this year.

The police investigation has established he taught many children during his 40-year career in Hawke's Bay, Wellington and Masterton.

Detective Sergeant Nic Clere said the investigation into Harter's offending is ongoing and any parents with concerns should ring the investigation team.

Harter was remanded in custody until sentencing on 23 October.
