Wellington Girls' College says students will need to spend between two to five days learning from home over the next six weeks.
School whānau learned late on Monday that the College's biggest teaching building, Brook Block, was structurally weak on top and lacked earthquake resilience.
After two days of meetings with staff, the Ministry of Education and parents, principal Julia Davidson said students and teachers will not be returning to Brook Block.
However an extension of the block, which is deemed safe, includes office space and two classrooms and will be used.
Davidson said that until prefabs are up and running, likely to be mid-September, each year group will have between two to five days at home.
The days away from school will be rostered by year group over the coming weeks.
But staff have been unanimous about the need to keep year 12 and 13 at school until their derived grade exams start.
