Easter weekend liquor ban in parts of PNG

12:29 pm on 18 April 2014

A liquor ban has been imposed in the Papua New Guinea capital, Port Moresby, and other provinces, as part of police measures to have a crime-free Easter weekend.

The newspaper, The National, reports that the ban applies to all dealers, taverns, bottle shops, takeaway shops, public bars and publicans.

Similar operations have been planned for Lae, Madang, Mt Hagen, New Ireland and Goroka.

Alcohol will be able to be purchased again on Tuesday.
