The Canterbury Earthquakes Royal Commission will publicly release its interim report on the rebuilding of Christchurch on Wednesday.
Prime Minister John Key says the report has been presented to Governor-General Lieutenant-General Sir Jerry Mateparae.
It includes interim recommendations that will help decision-making for rebuilding and repair work as part of the earthquake recovery effort.
It does not deal with specific buildings that caused loss of life.
A final report by the commission will be issued early next year.
