16:13 pm on 23 February 2015

A group of university students had to be rescued by firefighters after they became stuck in a lift in a Wellington hall of residence.

The 24 students were trapped when the lift jammed on the ground floor of the new Katharine Jermyn Hall on Boulcott Street at about 10.20pm last night.

Firefighters and the lift company were called and managed to get inside.

Several of the students needed oxygen as a result of the incident.
