An 11-year-old has been named as the young person who died when she was hit by a freight train in Mount Maunganui on 31 July.
Police say she was Jorja-Ray Smith of Mount Maunganui.
Her death has been referred to the coroner.
Police said they extend their sympathies to her loved ones.
