Demolition decision still on hold for Manchester Courts

15:48 pm on 14 September 2010

A decision on the future of a seven-storey building in central Christchurch is still pending as the estimated cost of demolishing it may be the same as repairing it.

The Manchester Courts building has an Historic Places Trust rating of category one, which means it has special or outstanding historical or cultural heritage significance or value.

It is deemed too unsafe to enter and people employed at some of the businesses in the building, are not yet allowed back to retrieve their property.

A 60-metre cordon remains around the building.

Other property owners in the area are being encouraged to check their property regularly in case Manchester Courts is causing them damage.
