A tribute is to be held to the long-serving chair of the New Zealand Maori Council, Sir Graham Latimer in October.
Former prime ministers, judges and iwi leaders will attend.
The council's deputy chair Jim Nichols, says the symposium at Te Papa will look at his contributions to Maori.
Waatea News reports these includes economic and social development, treaty claims on land, forestry, fisheries, the Maori language, broadcasting and the status of the Treaty of Waitangi itself.
Mr Nichols says Sir Graham continues to make an active contribution to the nation, more than 50 years after he joined the Maori Council.
