Adelaide Road in the Wellington suburb of Newtown is set to reopen in both directions on Thursday for the first time since the devastating fire at Loafers Lodge just over a week ago.
In a statement, Acting Wellington District Commander Dion Bennett said a cordon will remain around Loafers Lodge itself until a scene examination had been completed.
He thanked businesses, residents and locals affected by the closure for their patience and cooperation.
On Tuesday, Bennett said three victims had been formally identified, while the formal identification process was continuing for two others.
Police are yet to confirm a final death toll from the fire. Bennett said covering ground in the building was methodical and would take time but police were making good progress.
