An innocent cyclist has died after they were struck by a vehicle during a police pursuit in West Auckland last week.
The 39-year-old man was cycling on Don Buck Road last Monday when he was struck by a vehicle that was fleeing from police
The cyclist was taken to hospital with serious injuries, but died last night.
Police said the driver of the vehicle allegedly fled the scene.
A 25-year-old man was arrested on the night of the incident and will appear in court tomorrow. Police said further charges may be laid.
Waitemata Acting District Commander Inspector Shanan Gray said the cyclist's death was a tragedy.
She has urged anyone who is signalled to stop by the police to do so immediately.
Police are continuing to investigate this incident and the Independent Police Conduct Authority has been notified.
