The Manly rugby league coach Geoff Toovey has called for a complete overhaul of the NRL judiciary system in the wake of Tony Williams' seven-week suspension for a dangerous throw.
Adamant the grade-four charge was over the top, Toovey was eager to challenge the grading at the judiciary last night, however Williams didn't want to risk the 10-week ban he faced if unsuccessful in seeking a downgrade.
The club have accepted the decision of the match review panel, but Toovey was on the front foot in demanding changes to the judiciary process and requesting the players' association become involved.
The man Toovey replaced at Brookvale, Des Hasler, has been leading a crusade against the judiciary system since Frank Pritchard's suspension, and he's found support from his former deputy.
Toovey, who was shocked at the severity of the initial charge, argued the players and clubs deserve a more transparent system.
