Barefoot prisoner escapes police custody in Levin

Police are appealing for sightings of 41-year-old man Marley Gregory who escaped custody while being transported to prison in Levin this morning.

In a statement, police said Gregory faced several charges in Palmerston District Court this morning, appearing via audio visual link from Levin.

A police spokesperson said Gregory was remanded in custody following his court appearance before he then escaped from police on foot around 10.50am while being transferred from a police cell to a van in Levin.

Police said he was last seen barefoot and wearing all grey clothing.

Gregory is believed to have links to Palmerston North, Marton, Woodville and Dannevirke.

Police say he is considered dangerous and should not be approached.
