Sixteen more people have died with Covid-19 and there are 8028 new cases in the community today, the Ministry of Health has announced.
In a statement, the ministry said there were also 383 people in hospital, including seven in ICU.
The seven-day rolling average of community case numbers today is 5480 - last Tuesday it was 4878. The ministry has made a reminder that the increase in case numbers today was not unusual after a long weekend.
"It will take more time before we are able to determine if this is part of a trend," it said.
The latest deaths took the total number of publicly reported deaths with Covid-19 to 1488 and the seven-day rolling average of reported deaths is 12.
"Of the people whose deaths we are reporting today; four were from the Auckland region, two were from Waikato, two were from Hawke's Bay, one was from MidCentral, two were from Taranaki, one was from Wairarapa, one from Wellington, two were from Canterbury, and one was from the Southern region.
"One person was aged between 10 and 19 years, three were in their 70s, six were in their 80s and six were over 90. Of these people, 11 were male and five were female."
Yesterday there were 11 deaths and 5549 new cases of Covid-19 in the community announced.
