On 30 May, 2016, RNZ and TVNZ jointly published an article headed "Panama Papers: The NZ-Kazakhstan connection".
The article concerned Akezhan Kazhegeldin, the former Prime Minister of Kazakhstan.
RNZ and TVNZ accept that parts of the article may have implied to some readers that Dr Akezhan Kazhegeldin used his position as Prime Minister to corruptly enrich himself and tried to hide the proceeds of his crimes through a web of companies and trusts.
As a result of documents supplied by Dr Kazhegeldin, RNZ and TVNZ accept these impressions are incorrect and they unreservedly apologise to Dr Kazhegeldin and his family.
