Cook Islands Police are stepping up their road safety campaign after six motorbike accidents last weekend.
While none was fatal, two young men had a lucky escape after the scooter they were riding hit a sea-wall early on Sunday morning.
The driver was underage and alleged to be under the influence of alcohol.
Over the next week, police traffic patrols will be targeting speeding, drink-driving and unsafe driving practices.
Inspector John Strickland, says despite police issuing traffic offence notices, drivers are still not getting the message and says they are determined to reduce the number of crashes.
Police issued 40 traffic offence notices in the first three weeks of September, and eight people were arrested and charged with driving with excess alcohol.
