Tonga to remember Lomu

09:38 am on 21 November 2015

The Tongan government is calling on the nation to mark the death of rugby star Jonah Lomu with a moments silence on Sunday.

Former All Black Lomu, whose parents are Tongan, died this week in Auckland as a result of cardiac-arrest related to his long-running battle with kidney disease.

Sports Minister Fe'ao Vakata says the government will be represented at a memorial service for Lomu in Auckland.

"There will be a letter from the Prime Minister and government of Tonga. It will be delivered by the representative of government in New Zealand and also we asked the church leaders if there can be moments of silence for Jonah Lomu on Sunday as well as prayers and dedication to Jonah Lomu and his family."
