A 57-year-old person has been arrested after a shipment of marijuana from the United States was intercepted in a joint operation by Samoa's Customs and Police officials.
The Samoa Observer newspaper reported the incoming freight was detected by the joint K9 Unit.
A release from the Ministry of Customs and Revenue said the man would be charged with offences relating to the seizure.
The statement reminded the public that as the country headed into the festive season, that despite state of emergency restrictions, work on border security and community safety was ongoing.
The port operation came after armed police seized 4000 marijuana plants from plantations deep in the mountains of Satapuaala and Faleatiu last Tuesday.
